Free Wood From A Fellow Family Woodworker

Rex Bloem, a fellow member of the Family Woodworking forum, told me last week he was taking down a good size peach tree and a peach bush. We got the timing squared out yesterday morning and I made the 1/2 drive south to his place. Can't believe we haven't met before as close as he is. Got a shop tour and boy am I envious of his! Lots of room and storage. Spent about an hour with him and then loaded up the wood haul pictured below. Should have taken the camera with me to give you all some shots of his shop too...next time! Thanks again Rex and like I said, don't be suprised if there is a vase or bowl out of peach on your doorstep soon! BTW, my car still smells like peaches...made me want some pie or cobbler!

Oak Ensemble

It's been awhile since my last update...I've been busy prepping for the upcoming show in Sept. I have lots of work to show, I hope the shows attendees like what I have to offer.

My good friend is the head grass cutter (superintendent) at Wakonda Club here in town and they lost quite a few oaks this spring to a bad wind storm. He told me to come get as much as I want. They had 6 semi trailers hauled out eventually, but I only loaded my car once. His wife gave him a bowl made from the score for their anniversary. Here are a few others that I have done with the oak.

While on a walk last night with my wife and daughter, we were discussing what kind of plants to plant to finish of a bed we just took around a ton of crushed brick out of. Out of no where, my wife says, "Wow, look at all that free wood!" Just after that she said, "Why did I say that!" To be honest, I wouldn't have even noticed it. She is getting tired of the amount of wood I have in the garage, along with all the curlies and dust and dirt and...well you get the picture. She followed up asking me to stop grinning by saying, "Happy Father's Day!" I went back and loaded up about half of the wood. Took it back and tried out a small limb making a crude vase....yep its cherry alright and I'm going back to get the rest today! Turns like butter, very wet and still has lots of leaves on some of the limbs. Pics will be added later.
