Upcoming Shows

I’ll be busy the next couple of weeks finishing up some last minute pieces for 2 upcoming shows. First, I’m very excited to exhibit at Art On The Prairie on Nov. 9th, 10-5pm and Nov. 10th from 10-4pm . This show takes place in Perry, IA inside some of the historic buildings downtown. My booth will be inside the historic Security Bank Building, 1102 Willis Ave. in the Clarion Room. Alongside my bowls, bottle stoppers, vases, cutting boards and earrings, I will be debuting some new bowls and sculptures at this show so don’t miss out!

Perry is just a short drive from the Des Moines metro and there will be lots to see and do. In addition to the artists and their wares, there will be music, wine tasting, food, poetry and more. Learn more by checking out http://www.artontheprairie.org/

The following weekend my dad and I will have a booth for the third year in a row at the Beaverdale Holiday Boutique on November 16^th from 8am to 3:30pm. It takes place inside the gym and school at Holy Trinity Church, 2926 Beaver Ave. in Des Moines. Along with our typical bowls, vases and other forms, my dad will have tons of ornaments, coffee scoops and more. See more at the show's facebook page

Valley Junction Farmer's Market and Goodsmiths

Had a good time last night sharing the Goodsmiths booth with Kathy Leonard, from Prairie View Studios and the staff at Goodsmiths. The market was very busy with the great weather we had. Thanks to everyone that stopped by and said hi! I hope to be able to do this a couple more times this summer as well. New Listings in Online Store & An Upcoming Show

I've added quite a few new items to my online store on Goodsmiths.com  (also some pics below) I'm getting more items in the store in anticipation of joining the Goodsmiths' staff and another artist at the Valley Junction Farmer's Market on May 30th from 4-8pm.

I was invited by Goodsmiths as part of their promotion of a new app, Swipe by Goodsmiths that links your sales at art and craft shows with your Goodsmith shop! I'm told the Android verion is coming soon. More info is available here. Great Things are Growing in Perry

Just another plug for the show I will be at this Saturday May 5th in Perry, IA. The event the show is attached to is Great Things are Growing in Perry Take some time and come up and see me...I'll have lots of new pieces ready for sale...

First Show Of The Year

I have been invited to display my wares in Perry, IA in a few weeks on May 5th from 10-4pm as part of "Great Things Are Growing in Perry". That Saturday there is an event call "Art on the Prairie/Seed Walk". It is an event that in part promotes Art on The Prairie (an art show that takes place in November this fall I'm hoping to be invited to) The "Seed Walk" takes people around Perry collecting seed packets and small plants at various locations in town. I will have a table set up in the Clarion Room on the first floor of the Security Bank Building. It is located just to the west of the historic Hotel Pattee. Stop by if you get a chance!

The Beaverdale Holiday Boutique

Please come out and see my dad and I at the Beaverdale Holiday Boutique at Holy Trinity Church this weekend. It starts tonight at 6:30 and goes til 8:30pm. Tomorrow it runs from 8-3pm. There will be lots of good food for sale along with a wide assortment of art and craft items.

Thick Maple Bowl

I was pretty excited when I cut into this piece of maple. There are bark inclusion and some incredible grain. It's about 7" in diameter and 4" tall. There is a small bead just on the bowl's rim that includes a burnt accent line.

This piece will be available for sale next weekend at the ArtStop event. (Also see previos post)  This picture isn't the best, so you should stop by and put your hands on it to see how great it looks and feels. You will also see lots of other new pieces too!

ArtStop 9/24-9/25

On Sept. 24 and 25th I will be taking one of my lathes and setting up my woodturning shop in the parking lot of The Mansion at 28th and Ingersoll Ave. in Des Moines, IA to demo my wood turning skills as part of ArtStop. The event is friday evening from 5-9pm  and from 11-5pm on Saturday. ArtStop takes place all over Des Moines, so please spend part of your weekend attending. Of course stopping by The Mansion should be a priority so stop by and say hi. I will do my best to not get any wood shaving on you if you do.

I'll be showing how I make bowls, vases, platters, bottle stoppers, tops, and lots more! I will have lots of one of a kind pieces available for purchase. It would also be a great opportunity to see the beautiful showrooms inside The Mansion to see how my pieces can be incorporated into your home's design. Better yet, have one of the talented designers show you how! I'll post more info when things are finalized a little more. See you there!

Art in the Park

Please stop by Mound Park in Dallas Center, IA for Art in the Park tomorrow. I will have a booth set up selling my wares. The show runs from 1-5pm and there will also be music, food and drink and much more. The forecast is for mostly sunny and great temps...come spend an afternoon looking for great things from local central Iowa artists. Hope to see you there!

Art In The Garden

Please stop out at Ted's Garden Center, located in Cumming, IA, this coming Saturday the 22nd from 9am-4pm for "Art In The Garden." My dad and I will be sharing a booth along with 22 other central Iowa artist. Summerset Winery will be on site in the afternoon with samples of there wine to enjoy in the garden as well. The garden center will have lots of specials available, including a seminar on how to make mosaic stepping stones.

This is the first time my dad and I have done a show together and we are both looking forward to it, so please stop by, say hi and have a look at our one of kind turned wood pieces.

A Few New Bowls

My dad and I are sharing a booth at an art show on the 22nd so I needed to finish up a few more bowls for the show. I turned all 9 of these this past Saturday. The four on the left are bur oak and range in size from 5" to 10". The middle four are spalted hackberry and range in size from 6" to 13" and the thick one in the upper right is spalted maple which is about 11". I will be finishing the bases up tonight and getting some more oil put on them as well. All that's left to do for the show are some bottle stoppers and a few week pots.
