I had the pleasure to see Louie Bellson in concert in 1991. I didn't want to go, but a college class required it...I'd never heard of him before and I didn't think some old drummer could be interesting. Boy was I wrong! Possibly the best concert I've ever attended. He played a 23 minute drum solo! I know because I timed it!
He passed away on Saturday.
