I started repainted the lathe today. I went with black for the base as that is the color my grandpa (KP) painted his original base. The rest of the lathe still needs to be cleaned and a little grinding with a wire brush. It will then be painted with a grey machine metal paint. Here is a pic of the new paint on the base.
